If I ranted on about computers before disk drives and modems, 

You'd have something snarky to say.

"Life wouldn't be the same without air" or something.
Anyway, eventually people could afford disk drives and nice shiny modems,
to use "Chat rooms" on Compuserve/Genie/AOL, download pretty pictures too.

$4.99 per hour.
20 hours a week, for a month.

I don't pretend to have much more to say here,
except it was a nice blog (the very first link,)
like an episode of "Twilight zone"

 

or some drawn-out Star-trek Holodeck episode.

The command-line-interface and the associated arcane commands, couldn't hold a candle to GUI and chatting to bots.
The other stuff you can do (streaming movies) doesn't really sell, does it?
We could've rented USB thumb-drives, or been all old school and used VCR's.
